“April, dressed in all his trim,
Hath put a spirit of youth in everything.”
-William Shakespeare
Last Saturday morning, my 15-year-old daughter came and asked me, “When are we going to open up the deck for the year? Let's pressure wash it and pull out all the deck furniture!”
Her excitement was contagious. It didn’t take much to convince my husband and me to do that very thing. We dropped our indoor tasks and went outside to get started. Pressure washers came out, deck furniture got pulled out from under our waterproofed deck and plans and dreams for life outside once again were in the making. One by one, the kids came out to help get this warm-weather-living underway.
Once April rolls around, we are antsy to get out into that sunshine and enjoy the warmth that the season offers. We all know Ohio has only a limited amount of warm weather. Why not make the most of those warmer days? When spring makes its long-awaited debut, our lives take a different turn. We begin grilling, eating as a family around the table outside, and intentionally spending as much time out on the deck as we possibly can.
Why is April the perfect time to build a deck? The earlier in the season you hire a deck builder to begin your project, the better your chances are of getting on the schedule and having a deck project completed quickly. Spring tends to quickly fill up a deck builder’s schedule. The sooner a project is underway, the more time you get to spend outdoors. Most people do not take full advantage of what the warm weather has to offer. April’s evenings are mild and lend themselves perfectly to gathering around a fire pit, eating outdoors without the presence of pesky mosquitoes, and hanging out with family and friends. Life outside gives a you a feeling of relaxation and enjoyment that the indoors cannot give.
Do not hesitate to get your project underway. Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, we at the Woodland Deck Company have done our best to accommodate our customers by implementing social distancing protocols. We offer you the ability to receive professional consultations with our deck builders via phone, video conference, email, and text, along with jobsite meetings with proper care taken to provide our customers with a healthy and comfortable experience.
About the Author
Hi! I’m Melita, wife of Steve, accountant at Woodland, and manager of all things chaotic and beautiful in our home with eight kids. Books and beautiful literature have been my lifelong companions. When I’m not homeschooling or turning out masses of food for each meal, or folding piles of laundry, you’ll find me tucked away with a cup of coffee traveling the world vicariously through the characters on the pages of whatever book I might be reading.
Steve and I love traveling with our kids in our renovated and “modified-for-us” 25-year-old RV. Our goal is to make it to Alaska with it one day! We enjoy camping, hiking the trails in Northeast Ohio, and spending quality time with each other and our family. Occasionally, we will pull out our violin and guitar, and try to give it a go with our rusty instrument skills. Praise and worship is important to us, and to God be the glory!
I work part time at Woodland Deck Company, and I call that my “day off”. After I completed my degrees at The University of Akron in Computer Drafting Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technology, I worked at The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 5 years. Having our first baby brought my heart from the workplace to home and from that point on, I worked part time with Steve at Woodland. I love being around the people at Woodland. Every person’s story is amazing to me, and I love hearing about their lives and families. They truly are a blessing to me, and I’m so thankful for all of them.
